The College GPA Calculator is a comprehensive academic tracking tool designed to help college students calculate their semester GPA, build and maintain a cumulative GPA record across multiple semesters, and visualize their academic progress over time. Enter your course names, credit hours, and letter grades for the current semester, calculate your semester GPA instantly, then save that semester to your cumulative record to track your overall academic performance. The tool stores all saved semesters locally, displays a trend chart showing how your GPA has changed over time, and is fully optimized for clean, single-page PDF exports — making it the perfect solution for academic planning, scholarship applications, and personal record-keeping.
What the Calculator Measures
- Semester GPA is your Grade Point Average for a single semester, calculated by taking the sum of all grade points earned (each course’s grade value multiplied by its credit hours) and dividing by the total credit hours for that semester.
- Cumulative GPA is your overall GPA across all saved semesters, weighted by the total credit hours earned — it reflects your entire academic performance from the first saved semester up to the current one.
- Grade Points are numerical values assigned to letter grades based on the US grading scale — for example, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0.0.
- Credit Hours represent the weight or value of each course, typically reflecting the number of contact hours per week — courses with more credit hours have a greater impact on your GPA calculation.
- GPA Trend Chart is a visual line graph that plots your semester GPA over time, making it easy to see patterns, improvements, or declines in your academic performance at a glance.
How the Calculation Works
- Add your courses. For each course, enter the course name (optional, for your reference), credit hours (must be a positive number), and letter grade (e.g., A, B+, C-).
- Add more courses as needed. Click “Add Course” to add additional rows for each class you are taking this semester. Remove any unwanted course by clicking the remove button on that row.
- Click “Calculate Semester GPA.” The tool processes all entered courses instantly and displays your semester GPA above the Save Semester button, along with a summary of your total credit hours.
- Save the semester to your cumulative record. Click “Save Semester to Cumulative GPA” to add this semester’s data to your cumulative GPA history.
- Review your cumulative GPA. The Cumulative GPA section displays your overall GPA, total credits earned, and the number of semesters saved, along with a GPA trend chart showing how your GPA has changed over time.
- View saved semesters. A list of all saved semesters is displayed below the cumulative GPA, showing the semester number, GPA, and credits for each one.
